Who visits a school website – and what they are looking for

A school website has more audiences than most business sites. Parents considering admission want to understand the school's approach, facilities and fee process. Current parents look for the latest circular, the holiday list or the exam schedule. Students check results, timetables and activity updates. Teachers applying for jobs, alumni, inspectors and education officials all visit too. Each of them should find what they need in two or three taps on a phone.

Searches are usually local and specific: “CBSE school near me”, “school admission Gurugram”, “NEET coaching in Delhi”. When a parent compares a few schools online, an outdated website with last year's notice on the home page sends a quiet message about how the school is run.

Essential pages for school website design in India

  • Principal's desk – a short, personal message with a photo, plus the school's mission and vision.
  • About and affiliation – board affiliation, school code and recognition details where applicable, stated accurately.
  • Admissions – process, eligibility, important dates, documents required and an enquiry form.
  • Staff – the teaching team with subjects and qualifications, if the school is comfortable sharing them.
  • Facilities and activities – library, labs, sports, smart classrooms, clubs, NSS or vocational programmes, with real photos.
  • Notice board and news – circulars, holiday lists and events that office staff can post without technical help.
  • Gallery – albums of events and campus life, organised by year or occasion.
  • Important links – quick links to the board, state education department and other portals parents and students use regularly.
  • Contact and map – office timings, phone, e-mail and an embedded Google Map.

Coaching institute website: built around enquiries

A coaching institute's website has a sharper goal than a school's – turning visitors into demo-class bookings or counselling calls. Course pages should explain batch timings, duration, mode (classroom or online) and who the course suits. Faculty profiles, a clear enquiry form and WhatsApp button matter more here than a long history page. Results and toppers can be shown, but only with genuine data and the students' permission – avoid promises of selection or marks.

Hindi, English or both?

In many towns, a large share of parents are more comfortable reading Hindi than English. A bilingual website – or at least Hindi versions of key pages such as admissions, notices and contact – can make the school far more approachable. We can set up a language switch so staff manage both versions from the same admin panel, keeping the content in step.

Photos, privacy and children

School websites feature children, so care is needed. We recommend using group photos rather than close-ups where possible, avoiding full names alongside student photos, and following your school's own consent policy. Admission forms should collect only what is needed at the enquiry stage.

Education websites

Built for parents, students & staff

Features we commonly add for schools, colleges and coaching institutes.

Notice board

Office staff post circulars, holiday lists and exam dates as text or PDF in a minute – the latest notice shows on the home page.

Admission enquiries

An enquiry form for parents with class, contact details and a call-back preference, sent to the admissions desk by e-mail or WhatsApp.

Campus gallery

Event albums and a campus photo tour that help parents picture daily life at the school, easy for staff to add to.

Facilities & schemes

Clear pages for library, labs, sports and government schemes or programmes, so visitors see everything the school offers.

Online store

Sell books, study material, uniforms or courses with a catalogue, cart and checkout – useful for education brands and institutes.

School software

When you are ready, add management software for admissions, attendance, fees or results, planned around your school's process.

School website or school management software?

Schools often ask whether they need a website, management software or both. They do different jobs, and many schools start with a website and add software later:

How school website development usually runs

School calendars are busy, so we plan projects around them – ideally finishing before the admission season starts, when parents are most likely to visit. A typical project follows these steps:

  1. Kick-off meeting with the principal or a nominated teacher to agree the pages, the audiences and who will approve content.
  2. Content collection – the principal's message, staff list, facilities, affiliation details and photos. We share a simple checklist so nothing is missed.
  3. Design and preview on a private link that staff and management can check on their own phones.
  4. Training for the office staff who will post notices and gallery updates.
  5. Launch, with the site submitted to Google Search Console and linked from your Google Business Profile.

One teacher or office member owning the content usually makes the project move much faster than a large committee.

If you want management software, our custom software development team can plan modules around how your school already works, and a mobile app or PWA can give parents easy access on their phones.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can our school office staff update notices and photos themselves?

Yes. We set up a simple admin panel where staff can post circulars, holiday lists and exam dates as text or PDF, and add photos to the gallery. We train your team after launch and share a short guide, so the website stays current without calling a developer for every notice.

Do you build websites for government schools?

Yes. We built the website for PM SHRI GSSS Paju Kalan, a government senior secondary school, with the principal’s desk, staff, facilities and schemes, a campus gallery and quick links to education portals. We are happy to discuss documentation or approval steps your school needs to follow.

Can a coaching institute take admissions or sell courses online?

Yes. We can add course pages with enquiry forms for demo classes, and an online store with cart and checkout for courses, books or study material, connected to a payment gateway. See our e-commerce website development options for more on selling online.

Do you also provide school management software?

We build custom school software for needs such as admissions, attendance, fees and results, planned around your existing process rather than forcing a fixed package. It can be added after the website or developed alongside it. Read about our custom software development to learn how we work.

How much does a school website cost?

It depends on the number of pages, whether we write the content, gallery size and extras such as an online store or software. A simple school site and a multi-campus institute website are very different projects. We give a fixed quote after a free consultation. Contact us to start.
